In August, 1962, Deane visited Fort Polk, Vernon Parish, Louisiana to report on the 39th Division of the Arkansas National Guard, a parade and ceremony. Bridge techniques were demonstrated by guardsmen from Danville, Yell County, Arkansas working on a floating bridge and Specialist Fourth Class Don S. Pelt of Dardanelle, Yell County, Arkansas operating a crane.
